So - you have to do a science fair project.....Do these very words strike fear in your heart? Do you feel overwhelmed? Are you unsure of where to start? This website is the one for you. The goal of these pages is to help demystify the science fair and the scientific method for elementary level students and their parents - to make it (Gasp!) fun! Science fairs are not to be feared nor should they be the source of headaches for parents and tears for students. They are designed to provide a real world experience allowing those that complete the process a look inside the scientist's world and the steps necessary to solve real world problems. The key to the science fair is to remember that it is a process. They are called steps of the scientific method because they are to be done in small chunks. So let's get started! The banner above lists the steps of the scientific method one by one. Click on Step One to start, read through its pages and plan out your project as you learn about the process. Do not proceed to the next step until the previous one is completed. A good science fair project should take a minimum of a month to complete, but could take longer. Plan adequate time to do a thorough job. Before going to the next page, check out Brain Pop's video overview about the scientific method. |
